The greatest speech I have ever heard.
Father, In the name of Jesus. Holy is your name. Thank you for your Word, thank you for the Holy Spirit in us. Receive our thanks and let your truth be revealed to us in Jesus name. Amen.
The greatest lines I have ever heard and seen as a kid was in a film called Jesus of Nazareth during Easter period in the 80s. The public television stations then would show it for many days and we would all gather around the black and white tv. But even as a kid, you would feel the anointing as Robert Powell utters those words in Matthew 5:44. Of course I did not know who the actor was and in fact I thought he was the real Jesus Christ. Until now it’s difficult to accept any other actor for that role.
Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
We need the Holy Spirit:
Everybody loves Jesus but do we agree completely with His teachings. At best we love those that love us even though we wish the whole world can love us. But when we allow the Holy Spirit to continues to fellowship and magnetize our spirit; we will begin to conform to the image of Christ.
I have heard teachings from very many Preachers that suggest that they don’t completely agree with those sayings in Matthew 5:44 but could not plainly say it for the fear of the people. Some even reverse it with Isaiah 54:17 …And every tongue which rises against you in judgment, You shall condemn.
Those words came directly from Almighty God Himself. Until Jesus, it was an eye for an eye; fire for fire. The devil deceiving humans that it’s not possible; except you are a fool. Matthew chapter 5:44 . Now thank God for the Holy Spirit who has made everything possible. We are spirits therefore we do not work/duel in the energy of the flesh. God has replaced our heart of stone with the heart of flesh. Except the Holy Ghost makes you to understand, you will still have questions.
The Master is wiser:
We are quick to condemn and judge others but Jesus said in Luke 6:37 “Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:”
We behave as if we are holier than everybody but we ask for forgiveness in secret yet rebuke our brother in public. Matthew 6:44 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive yours.
The keepers of the laws in those days had always wanted to pitch Jesus against the people by asking Him naughty questions “Rabbi, Moses said this, what do you say? But even though Jesus knew how mischievous they were; yet the LORD spoke freely. Matthew 19: 8 Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.
Jesus was plain, simple and unambiguous. Moses saw that your heart was too hardened and so he permitted you to do your will. However, that was not the perfect will of God.
